Art By Otto Von Todd.
This was my favorite piece of his, with it’s wonderful brush strokes and modern imagery.  I had never seen a painting represent a MySpace photo until now.  The rest of his work seems to be more cartoonish, but they are all lovely. Check out the rest at CGunit (NSFW).

Awesome Question #1265817720
Asker

morgandetoi asks, "Do you think html5 will be the death of Flash?"

IMHO, don’t believe the hype.  While it appears that companies like Google and Apple are against Flash, it still has a strong presence throughout the Internet.  There are flaws with HTML5 Video that will rear their head as people start to use it and the love affair with something new and shiny will die down.

Furthermore, the Video tag is so ill supported right now, it’ll take forever for it to reach market saturation.  Firefox is refusing to support H.264 in Video for copyright reasons, and the rhino of browsers, Explorer won’t even support it until IE9.

Me personally, after designing for over ten years, I’ve never supported Flash as a primary part of a web design.  For a while, every client wanted a Flash intro page and lots of whizzy graphics, and you have to tell them no, and they are limiting their market, thereby limiting their income.  Then they get on board.

Especially with the creation of Javascript frameworks like jQuery and Prototype and the performance improvement of JS engines, you can start to do a lot of the things Flash has been doing for a while.

With all that said, Flash is still a great way to develop interactive apps, presentations, web games, and animations.  I’ve been animating in Flash for years and love it.  Flash represents a beautiful entry level way to start building your own creative things and posting them up quickly to your website.  Just take a look at all of the awesome movies and games at Newgrounds.

Ultimately, Adobe could turn all of this around in a heartbeat by releasing a streamlined, uber efficient version of Flash player, open sourcing it, and strong arming default integration into the primary browsers.  Flash needs to become like Javascript or Webkit and change their image from a plugin to a core browser tool.

Death Cancels Everything But Truth.
At first, this lacked a source, but after doing some digging, I realized it was a quote by William Hazlitt and a poster by Mark Weaver. Thanks heyyoshimi.

Old Abandoned Houses.
They are no longer homes, but these houses feel like dying colossi roaming a deserted planet. Some of them may be a bit filtered, but they are all stunning. Thanks Apartment Therapy!

Mongolian Deathworm.
Here is an example of an extremely creative and ultimately simple art installation.  A series of red tubing was installed throughout Prague to represent a Mongolian Deathworm.  Existing brick was torn up and exposed along walkways, aside graffiti, and even in front of a McDonalds.  I imagine this would be the perfect installation to spend your day trekking the city, seeing where it leads and where it began.
